I got the Luminous theme because my site will feature pictures. I want to make my site look like the Luminous example but with my pictures, text and icons. Is there some kind of tutorial that might help? I don’t even know where to begin.

After installation go to Appearance >> Theme Options. There your will find all required settings.

Luminus is pretty easy to use. Let me know if have anypther question.

How can I change icons .. the ones that are now liquid fluid by default?

There is a Page Info meta box in edit page screen. Select your icon from there and update page. Updated icon will be shown in front-end.
