How do I go about setting up the slider?

Add some sliders ( slider title, featured image and slider link ) from admin menu >> Slider >> Add new.
Now go to theme option >> home page settings >> select a slider in each drop-down, that’s all :).
Anyhow let me know if you have any other question.

i don’t want a blog page as my home page… I want a full width slider with a modular layout… I choose full width page and set my slider very wide but it defaults back to a small image

here is the home page. It is set as a full width. The slider is not full width and it is not flush with the bottom of the top page. http://friendsofhumanity4haiti.org I am building all the pages using the module widgets

if you going to build homepage with layout builder, select the page template “Canvas with menu”
